Private vehicle (Mercedes-Benz V-class or equivalent SUV) with English-speaking driver-guide. 04:45 arrival at Manohara hotel grounds, briefing with private historian. 05:00 entry to temple grounds, ascent to upper platforms, sunrise viewing from Stupa-area, contemplative time on Arupadhatu (formless) platforms.

06:00 to 07:30 detailed bas-relief tour with historian, focusing on the Lalitavistara sequence on the Rupadhatu platform. 07:30 to 08:30 post-tour breakfast at Amanjiwo or Plataran Borobudur. 09:30 return drop-off. Total: 5 hours.

Includes Royal Sunrise package plus: late-morning lunch at a curated heritage restaurant (typically Mesa Stila resort or Amanjiwo). 11:30 visit to Pawon temple — the smaller intermediate temple in the ceremonial axis. 12:30 visit to Mendut temple — the third temple, with the famous Buddha-and-disciples carving. 14:00 lunch break, late afternoon visit to a traditional Javanese gamelan performance (Sasono Hinggil or affiliated venue) with a brief lesson on the music’s structure.

17:00 return drop-off. Total: 9 hours. Per-person USD 720, couple USD 1,320, family of four USD 2,280.

Package 3 — The Wellness Retreat (3 days, from USD 2,800)

Day 1: Royal Sunrise package with breakfast at Amanjiwo. Afternoon: Yogyakarta heritage walking tour (Kraton, Taman Sari water castle, Beringharjo market). Evening: dinner at Bumi Kedaton heritage restaurant. Day 2: Morning meditation at a quieter affiliated Buddhist temple led by a scholar.

Afternoon: traditional Javanese spa programme (Lulur scrub, mandi rempah herbal bath, Javanese massage). Evening: free for personal practice or rest. Day 3: Half-day visit to Prambanan Hindu temple complex (the contrasting Hindu architectural counterpart to Borobudur), late lunch, departure. Total: 3 days.

Optional Add-Ons

Sunrise photographer (per couple, 2-hour engagement, raw + processed RAW files): USD 380 to USD 620. Helicopter aerial tour over Borobudur (45 minutes, requires DGCA permit lead time): USD 4,800 per group. Private dinner at Amanjiwo with temple view: USD 320 to USD 580 per couple. Sunrise Slot Availability and Booking Lead Time

The Manohara sunrise programme caps at approximately 100 guests per day. In peak season (June-Aug, Dec-Jan), these slots fill 3 to 6 weeks ahead. We secure slots upon booking confirmation, but sunrise-tour clients are encouraged to book 14+ days ahead to ensure availability. We can sometimes secure same-week slots through our partner network but this cannot be guaranteed.

Combination With Yogyakarta Stay

Most luxury Borobudur visits are combined with 2 to 4 nights in Yogyakarta or at a Borobudur-adjacent resort (Amanjiwo, Plataran, Mesa Stila). We do not directly book accommodation but recommend partner properties via our written proposal. The combination of overnight stay plus our private tour is the standard luxury heritage architecture.
